People
& Company

The path to a more sustainable future can only be taken together. In the People & Company field of action, we face our corporate responsibility to make the right decisions – not just on environmental and economic levels, but on a social level, too.

As a result, one of our measures in this field involves introducing a human rights strategy that will see our family-owned company take a stand to respect human rights around the world. Fair working conditions at our sites and in our supply chain, and a people-centric set of values, will be embedded within our company’s strategy. Because we care about each other.

We care about

change.

Change entails taking action at every level. Under our strategy, sustainability impacts every business area within our group of companies. By establishing our own sustainability division that reports directly to the management board, we are shouldering responsibility for our actions and taking a further step towards a more sustainable future.

We encourage dialogue within our group of companies through interdepartmental communication and training – and beyond, thanks to our We Care Together initiative. As part of this process, we have resolved to share comprehensive, transparent information about our stance on sustainability and the milestones we have reached. After all, we are on this journey together.

Our plan is to document our progress in a sustainability report, published at regular intervals from 2025 onwards. The report will draw on current standards and will be available on this page.

We care about
social responsibility.

As an internationally operating group of companies, we are aware of our social responsibility along the entire supply chain. Since 2003, we have been a member of the amfori Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI), an initiative of numerous European retailers to improve social performance in global supply chains. For our subsidiary, the International Brands Company (IB Company KG), we use the BSCI service to review working conditions at our private labels manufacturers.

We care about

architecture.

We opened the first Peek & Cloppenburg* store in Germany over 120 years ago. With our group-wide retail stores, we now shape city centers across Europe. The aesthetics of our stores are important to us – but so is their sustainable construction. That is why we use robust natural materials when building our premises. After all, we are making them to last for generations. At the same time, we are working on continually enhancing our energy efficiency. For instance, we are currently switching the lighting in our stores to LED bulbs. This alone cuts down on the energy needed to light our stores by 50 percent – and, in turn, saves 5,000 tons of CO2 a year.
