Planet
& Climate

Our vision of a better future begins with awareness of the habitat we impact with our actions. In the Planet & Climate field of action, we face up to our responsibility towards our planet.

As a result, we are aiming to save more resources and reduce emissions – from production and packaging right through to transport and logistics – because we care about our planet.

We care about

the climate.

It is estimated that the fashion industry is responsible for ten percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. As part of this sector, we are aware of its impact on the climate and the environment and, by extension, our role in putting the Paris Agreement into practice. We are facing up to this task: by the end of 2024, we will have developed a climate strategy that integrates every area within our group of companies. For a better future.

Haus Köln
We care about

architecture.

We opened the first Peek & Cloppenburg* store in Germany over 120 years ago. With our group-wide retail stores, we now shape city centers across Europe. The aesthetics of our stores are important to us – but so is their sustainable construction. That is why we use robust natural materials when building our premises. After all, we are making them to last for generations. At the same time, we are working on continually enhancing our energy efficiency. For instance, we are currently switching the lighting in our stores to LED bulbs. This alone cuts down on the energy needed to light our stores by 50 percent – and, in turn, saves 5,000 tons of CO2 a year.

We care about

logistics.

Our international network of stores consists of many different branches, so logistics processes play an important role at our company. Our new logistics centre in Bedburg, for instance, was constructed in line with KFW 55 standards and the Gold certification standard. Plus, it is solely powered by green gas.

We care about

transport.

As an omnichannel fashion retailer, transport plays a key role at the P&C* group of companies. We ship all of our orders within Germany using DHL Go Green, a service that calculates and offsets the CO2 emissions generated by the transportation process in line with ISO 14064. This entire approach is audited and certified by an external certification company. In Austria and in the Netherlands, too, our products are already shipped to our customers using Österreichische Post’s an Post NL’s exclusively CO2-neutral service - all emissions that cannot currently be avoided are compensated for by supporting recognized and certified climate protection projects.

We care about
packaging.

We avoid packaging during transport and in our production processes to save resources and minimise the impact on our environment. Where this is not possible, we opt for more sustainable alternatives, like in our retail stores and online shop. The paper used for the FSC-certified bags, boxes and shipping pouches is made from wood grown under responsible forestry conditions, while the handles of our shipping boxes are made from bioplastic created from renewable plants. In addition, the CO2 emissions generated during manufacture are calculated and offset through support for selected climate products.

We charge a fee of 20 cents per paper bag to generate awareness of more sustainable packaging options and encourage shoppers to use carrier bags multiple times. This leads to approximately 70 percent fewer bags being given out. As a further alternative to promote a conscious approach to packaging, we offer our durable reusable bags made from 100% recycled nylon in two sizes – which can be folded down and stashed in any handbag.
